The Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial

DianaThe Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial was designed with children in mind. It is located in the southwest corner of Hyde Park.
The fountain was designed by Kathryn Gustafson, an American landscape artist, and cost 3.5 million pounds. The made by McConnell and Sons in Kilkeel, Northern Ireland. The Memorial was opened by Her Majesty The Queen on 6th July 2004.

WaterThe fountain is made from 545 pieces of Cornish granite - each shaped by the latest computer-controlled machinery and pieced together using traditional skills. The water flows from the highest point in two directions as it descends the fountain before meeting in a calm pool at the bottom. The water is constantly being refreshed and is drawn directly from London's water table.

Information for visitors:
• The Memorial has a path suitable for wheelchairs.
• The area is supervised when open.
• Please feel free to sit on the edge of the Memorial and refresh your feet.
• We ask visitors not to walk on the Memorial.
• Dogs are not permitted into the area, except for registered assistance dogs.
• The area may be closed off during extremely cold or severe weather conditions.

Speakers Corner

Speakers Corner is an area where everyone is allowed to speak on any subject. Speakers Corner is located at the northeast corner of Hyde Park. The tradition of speaking here started in 1866 when the movement of Edmund Beales used the park as a gathering place of workers. Since then, it has been the site for public debates and speeches. Get there on a Sunday afternoon to catch the action.

Serpentine Lake

boatsSerpentine Lake, an 11.34 hectare lake which was one of the many renovations initiated by Queen Caroline, wife of George II. The Serpentine, together with the Lido, are places where people can sunbathe and swim or hire a boat on a hot summers day.

Rose Garden and Surrounding Area

The Rose Gardens are situated in the south-east corner of the park (Hyde Park Corner), here there are many statues and memorials to see. The Holocaust Memorial Walk at the bottom of the Serpentine runs between Rotten Row and Serpentine Road. In the Rose Gardens themselves there is the Huntress Fountain and the Boy and the Dolphin Fountain. If you cross over Rotten Row there is the Cavalry Memorial and the Family of Man Statue. Achilles Statue stands near the Curzon Gate. The Joy of Life Fountain is situated at Mount Gate on the east side of the park.

Marble Arch

Marble Arch at the north-east corner of the park is a sight for every visitor to London. Gates are kept closed across the arch itself, as Royal vehicles are the only things permitted to go through the arch. There is a triangular plaque set in the ground at the point where Edgeware Road and Bayswater Road meet.
