Technical Information
Octave Recording employs only equipment of the finest quality.
Microphones in matched pairs and trios from: Schoeps - Neumann - Coles - Microtech Gefell - AKG - Beyer - Calrec - Sennheiser and Sony, are part of a continually growing list.
Our choice of mixer is the DDA 'S' Series console with transformer-less microphone preamps and both VU and BBC type PPM metering.
Chosen for its simple signal path and sonic accuracy, it is also prized for having exceptionally low noise and low distortion
figures, and fpr rendering a transparent and open audio performance.
This is augmented with the Mackie 1604 VLZ/PRO mixer with XDR mic preamps. DAV BG1 Decca design microphone preamps are used for driving line level signals from microphone to control room.
These are complemented by state-of-the-art cabling with linear-crystal, oxygen-free-copper by Van Damme and Mogami, which is used for the entire signal path, from microphone to digital recorder and monitoring. 2 to 24 tracks of high density, high-resolution digital audio recording is provided utilising our 24bit/96khz Hard Disc Recorder, and DAT recorders by Tascam and Panasonic are used for digital stereo recording.
Monitoring is via Quad and Sugden amplification with Spendor, Quad and Tannoy monitors.
For post-production editing and mastering the SADiE digital editor is employed.
Also available are the digital half-track, Mitsubishi X80 reel to reel tape recorder, and for archived recordings the Sony PCM F1 digital recorder and Studer/Revox tape machine.
Quality Matters
As much as anything else, quality is an attitude of mind - near enough is never simply good enough. Octave Recording extends the same care and attention to detail in every recording that is undertaken, not only in our choice of equipment, but how we use it, and this we apply to every facet of our work.
The same high artistic and engineering standards, with the same high quality equipment - whatever, whoever and wherever the recording.
It's just the way we work.
Professionally reliable.
